Leslie began his acting career appearing in various films, such as Forever Female (1953), Johnny Dark (1954) and the Jane Wyman dramatic adaptation Magnificent Obsession (1954). He also appeared in the Frankie Laine musical Bring Your Smile Along (1955), the dramatic adaptation Queen Bee (1955) with Joan Crawford, and The Long Gray Line (1955).
